What size tubing you should use for your pond depends on a number of factors; including pump size, waterfall height, tubing legth, etc.  

As a general rule of thumb (and a good place to start), use the following tubing diameters (inside measurement) with the corresponding pump size:  

1/2"    ID Tubing - 300-gph pump
3/4"    ID Tubing - 700-gph pump
1"       ID Tubing - 1200-gph pump
1-1/4" ID Tubing - 1500-gph pump
1-1/2" ID Tubing - 2500-gph pump
2"       ID Tubing - 4800-gph pump
3"       ID Tubing - 9000-gph pump
